Union Grove Farm to Acquire a Portion of Maple View Farm

We are pleased to announce the 279-acre expansion of Union Grove Farm and vineyard in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough with the purchase of a large portion of the land at Maple View Farm. Our family has been farming in Chapel Hill for almost 20 years, coming from more than five generations of farmers. We established our vineyard in 2015, focused on cultivating world-class muscadine grape varietals.

The dairy at Maple View Farm and Milk Company has been a beloved staple of the Chapel Hill area, and we thank Roger Nutter and his family whose cows have served the community ice cream and milk since 1996. We are also excited to be partnering with Hank and Allison Nichols and Ross Poore, owners of Maple View Ice Cream and Country Store. They will continue to provide quality ice cream and North Carolina farm products. With this purchase, Union Grove Farm is committed to keeping the acquired, surrounding land dedicated to agriculture to maintain and enhance the spectacular views of the sunset from the country store’s popular front porch.

Union Grove Farm is a strong member of the Chapel Hill community and dedicated to regenerative farming. The next five years will be spent developing our Soil Food Web on the farm and working to discover and cultivate traits in grapevines to eliminate the need for pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers. The planned vineyard expansion is focused on environmental sustainability, working to ensure we maintain high quality standards on our farm and for our neighbors and the greater Chapel Hill and Hillsborough community.

The farm property also includes The Barn at Union Grove Farm, built and owned by Peter and Nicole Bohlen. This wedding and event venue accommodates 200+ guests, with over 4400 square feet of indoor space, and an additional 1000 square feet of covered porch.
